Brake Service & Brake Repair

Bison Fleet and Tire Specialists repairs all brake components including drum brakes and disc brakes, calipers and rotors, and shoes and pads.  Our highly trained technicians know your brake system and can perform brake inspections and brake pad replacements on every make and model. This includes models equipped with ABS, otherwise known as an Anti-Lock Braking System and Adaptive Systems.

Brake Inspection

We recommend that all vehicles have their brakes inspected every 12,000 miles or about once a year. A Bison Tire and Fleet Specialists technician will conduct an inspection of the brake system’s linings and other key components and provide you with a written evaluation, including a detailed diagnosis of the findings. Service recommendations will be based on your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations and the condition of the brake components that impact system performance.

Brake Fluid Exchange

Your brake fluid really helps control your stopping power. Brake fluid is a hydraulic fluid, which means it actually operates or moves the different parts in your vehicle’s braking system.  Brake fluid readily absorbs moisture from the air, which means in time it will become over saturated and start to break down.

This can cause a variety of issues, including rust and corrosion in your brake lines, which could lead to your brakes failing. Exchanging old brake fluid with new, high-quality brake fluid helps replenish and protect the components of your braking system.

With our brake fluid exchange service, we start by removing your car’s old brake fluid from the system, including the master cylinder reservoir. Next, starting at the Brake Fluid Cap, we fill the brake system with new manufacturers’ approved brake fluid until fresh fluid is flowing from each wheel and component location.

How To Check Your Brake Fluid - Bison Vehicle Repairs

Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)

An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a safety anti-skid braking system used on aircraft and on land vehicles, such as cars, trucks and buses. ABS operates by preventing the wheels from locking up during braking, thereby maintaining full traction with the road surface.  ABS uses wheel speed sensors to determine if one or more wheels are trying to lockup during braking. If a wheel tries to lock up, a series of hydraulic valves limit or reduce the braking on that wheel. This prevents skidding and allows you to maintain steering control.  Bison Fleet Specialists has the right tools and experience to ensure safe continued operation of your ABS system.

Air Brakes

An air brake system or, more formally, a compressed air brake system, is a type of friction brake for vehicles in which compressed air pressing on a diaphragm is used to apply the pressure to the brake linings needed to stop the vehicle.  Most commonly found on large trucks, Bison Tire and Fleet Specialists can lift and repair the air brakes on any vehicle up to 100,000 lbs
